If you’ve visited Rangeley in the fall and winter months, then you are surely familiar with one of the most popular attractions in the area – Saddleback Mountain. Saddleback provides everything from skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more, all set against the beautifully scenic backdrop of the Rangeley region. This winter promises to be one of the most exciting years at Saddleback yet, as Rangeley prepares to welcome in travelers who may not have been able to visit in 2020. Adding to this excitement is the new ownership of Saddleback that took over for the 2020/21 season, as they continue to make the mountain the best attraction in Rangeley.
With a base elevation of 2,460’, the highest base elevation of any ski area in New England, and a summit elevation of 4,120’, Saddleback offers no shortage of snowy thrills and relaxing mountain activities to appeal to all ages and experience levels. For thrill seekers, Saddleback offers several Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond slopes to hit with either your skis or snowboard, while also hosting plenty of calmer, easier slopes for the less experienced. If you are new to skiing, or just don’t feel like bringing along your own, Saddleback also stocks a fleet of new Volkl rental skis, along with an excellent selection of Rossignol snowboards, among other major ski and snowboard brands. Even better, Saddleback’s certified staff will work with your gear to make sure that you’re fitted and tuned perfectly before hitting the powder.
But there are more ways than skiing and snowboarding to see the beautiful sights of Rangeley from atop Saddleback Mountain! Guests can rent a snowmobile to ride the 170 miles of trails that comprise the mountain, or they can take part in Fat Biking on bikes outfitted with special snow tires made to traverse the wintry conditions. For something even more active, visitors love Uphill Touring, an onfoot tour of the trails using snow boots, poles, skis and more. Saddleback even offers free ice skating (and rentals) courtesy of the Rangeley Skating Club!
When you’ve finished exploring the trails and soaking up the snow, what could be better than winding down with some delicious Maine cuisine? The Pub at Saddleback offers gorgeous mountain views and a cozy setting as guests enjoy local cuisine like Maine lobster rolls and blueberry sauced wings to classics like pizza and signature burgers.
And this is just some of the fun winter activities that Saddleback has to offer! With trail openings being updated gradually as the season approaches, be sure to keep an eye on their website for all the latest news. We hope to see you at Rangeley Lake Resort soon!
